Isabella is the only child of Jocelyn and Jose.  Isabella is a miracle for more reason than one.  Isabella’s mommy was told that she couldn’t have children due her own debilitating illnesses herself.  Due to the high risk pregnancy, Isabella entered this world early and stayed in the NICU for 17 days before getting to go home.  Isabella was the center of her parents universe which was turned upside down when after complaining of pain in her stomach, shoulder, chest and legs, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common type of childhood cancer.

The standard treatment for ALL is a 2.5 years protocol for girls and 3.5 years for boys.  This regimen includes chemotherapy, steroids, prophylactic medications due to compromised immune system, bone marrow aspirations and spinal taps.  Although it has been a grueling process, and Isabella still has to endure 8 more months of treatments, she continues to fight hard and defy the odds all while maintaining a positive attitude.

Although it is still too early to tell just how much this journey has affected Isabella, her parents know that it is apparent already that Isabella suffers from anxiety, PTSD and anger.  In fact, cancer has taken a toll on the entire families mental health and they feel that Isabella having a space where she feels safe and special will be the first step in their taking back their lives and getting the upper hand on the damage that cancer has caused their little girl and their family.  Our Rooms to Thrive program aims to do just that and we are honored to be able to give them a piece of their life back!
